Kinky Friedman’s mini-tour stops at Poor David’s in Dallas Friday night
Some proceeds go to a charity that takes in stray or abused animals.
DALLAS The inimitable and often irreverent Kinky Friedman is coming to Poor David’s Pub Friday night. The Texas Country musician, crime-novelist, contributor to Texas Monthly, popular keynote speaker, and wannabe governor will be in town to play a little music and promote a cause close to his heart — his Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch. The nonprofit, no-kill sanctuary, located between Medina and Kerrville, is spearheaded by Kinky and run by his cousin Nancy and her husband Tony. They take in mainly dogs that are strays or have been abused or are on death row.
Kinky’s August 17 appearance at Poor David’s Pub is the third stop on his five-day Texas “tour-ette” to raise funds for the rescue. Little Jewford, a longtime friend and multi-talented musician, will play a special guest solo set. Kinky’s also likely to have copies of his book, Heroes of a Texas Childhood, for purchase and autograph signing. The tour marks the release of the new “Kinky Friedman’s Man in Black Tequila,” also the official sponsor for the tour, and those who attend the show will receive a special shot glass with the purchase of a ticket.
