5 reasons Nicki Minaj would make for a good American Idol judge

For a few days, reports have been swirling around the web that superstar Nicki Minaj could join American Idol as a judge. Minaj’s name was added to the rumor list that has featured names like Adam Lambert, Nick Jonas, Pharrell Williams, and Miley Cyrus, among others.

Earlier today, US Weekly reported that Minaj would be one of the new faces on Idol’s judging table alongside diva Mariah Carey. Minaj announced earlier this week that she would be postponing some of the dates of her UK tour, fueling rumors that she would be joining the reality competition.

So, what are some positives on having Nicki Minaj as an American Idol judge?

Current – Minaj is a current artist who seems to have an understanding on what is going on in music today. Idol is usually criticized for being old fashioned and out-of-touch, and she can help change that.

Successful – Her latest album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, debuted at No. 1 in April 2012 and spawned two Top 10 singles. Yes, she will get more successful with the show, but thankfully she is not just looking for a platform to make a huge comeback a la Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

Straight-forward – Minaj is not afraid to speak her mind. Wouldn’t it be great to have a judge that can actually offer some critique? She is a feisty one (just visit her Twitter feed and you’ll see). FOX better get their bleeps ready.

Fun – Minaj is a rapper, and as part of her act she has several personalities which could be fun on the show. I can’t wait to see Roman, one of her characters, unleash "his" fury on some gnarly contestant.
