Murder suspect turned himself in to Dallas police via Facebook
While in Mexico, police told Augustin Gonzalez via Facebook to walk to the nearest checkpoint. And he did.
On April 2, 2010, in the 3100 block of Chapel Creek, a suspect walked up to a parked vehicle in which the victim was sitting and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle, killing the victim. The Dallas Police Homicide detectives investigated the murder and identified the suspect as Augustin Gonzalez (birthdate August 28, 1968). An arrest warrant was issued but the suspect had fled the country.
On Friday, August 24, Gonzalez posted on the Northeast Division’s Facebook page that he wanted to turn himself in to law enforcement but was still in Mexico. Detectives were able to communicate with Gonzalez via Facebook and told him to walk to the nearest border check point to turn himself in to U.S. authorities.
Sometime after 11 p.m. on Friday, Gonzalez walked to the U.S. border near Juarez, Mexico and turned himself into authorities. Gonzalez is now in the San Diego County Jail on his Murder warrant waiting for an extradition hearing.
