Review: Kruffles in Dallas are cake balls with a funny name

DALLAS — Have you ever been on a plane ride and realized you were famished, but the thought of stale peanuts or $11 processed cheese plates were not what you had in mind? I know I have. This is the precise reason why on a recent vacation, I packed my purse with some mighty tempting treats.

I felt like a kid right after trick-or-treating, when you’re on that walk back home and you just can’t wait to get into your loot to separate the good stuff from those horrid peanut butter and liquorice taffy.

I couldn’t wait. I was barely in my seat, carry-on items still in my lap with no plans of fastening my seat belt. People were still herding down the aisle to find their seats, and screaming babies were already on auto-pilot. However, at that very moment it was just me and my glorious bag of sweets. Sure, it was filled with some of my other known favorites. However, there was something I had not yet had, and I was busting at the seams to start stuffing my face.

I had in my possession a glorious array of Kruffles. What are Kruffles you ask? Well, Kruffles are cake balls: fantastic, doughy, perfect cake balls.

I had a wonderful array of Kruffles. While I picked through them to choose my first, I felt the eyes on me as my fellow passengers walked towards their seats. I felt like I had just been crowned prom queen and left a very unhappy head qheerleader in my dust due to the jealousy of those around me. If only you had thought to bring some Kruffles on board, this 3.5 hour flight of screaming babies and recirculated air would seems like a private jet with rock star amenities.

One of my favorites was the carrot with its spicy flavor mixed with velvety cream cheese. The chocolate was a close second because it was not over-the-top chocolate. It was more like a delicate fudgy brownie. The strawberry was light with a delightful strawberry flavor; perfect for spring.
