4 wintry activities you can do in Frisco to celebrate the season

It is December, after all, even if it doesn't feel like it.

Frisco's Christmas in the Square 2010

— It’s finally ... almost ... here. Winter that is. Well, I admit that I’m a couple weeks early in my excitement and post, but who can blame me? The post-Thanksgiving, holiday happiness has taken me over and I can’t wait to share my favorite highlights in Frisco for this winter:

Ice skating: If you are looking to go ice skating, Frisco is definitely the right place to be, with at least two large rinks to choose from. The Ice at Stonebriar Centre and the Dr. Pepper StarCenter Ice Skating Rink both offer public skating, skating lessons, ice hockey, broomball, and host birthday parties and events. Don’t slip up – be sure you make it out to one of these rinks this winter.

2013 Winter Games: The Winter Games of Texas is returning for its eighth year in Frisco on January 18-21. According to the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, this sports festival was created for Texas amateur athletes of all ages and skill levels and is inspired by the Olympics – including sports such as basketball, swimming, figure skating, and ice hockey. More than 4,000 athletes are expected to participate in 13 events in and around Frisco. Whether you watch or volunteer, its sure to be an exciting time!

Christmas in the Square: Christmas in the Square returns for the 7th year for fun filled things like carriage rides (horse and buggy style), a model train display, Operation Once in a Lifetime toy drive, snow slide, Christmas tree lot, food trucks, a parachuting santa, santa visits, and trackless train rides … just to name a few. Christmas in the Square runs from November 23 through January 6, but to hit all these events, be at the special event on December 15, 2012 in Frisco Square.

Polar Express: Experience the magic at this pajama party December 14 & 16 at the Frisco Discovery Center. Bring the kids or bring yourself back to your childhood with magical activities such as winter games, goodie bag, balloon artist, a movie, a magician and of course photos with Santa. Hurry and buy your tickets now for $25 to be sure you don’t miss out.
