Cheer runners on in the Design District on Race Day!

— The routes are mapped, the runners registered, and the stage set for an exciting new edition of the Dallas Marathon this Sunday, December 9. This year, the race, formerly called Dallas Whiterock Marathon, will run through the heart of the Dallas Design District, taking marathoners down Dragon Street and then up Oak Lawn. And we plan to be there to cheer them on!

DallasDesignDistrict.com and PegasusAblon have teamed up with neighbor property owners Jim Lake Companies to make the Design District shine on race day. We’re organizing an all-out race day extravaganza, encouraging Design District residents, businesses, and friends to come out to support marathon runners and show how much spirit our little neighborhood has. We want to make their trip through the Design District as memorable as possible, plus it’s a good excuse to get everyone together for a party.

Festivities will kick off the Wednesday before race day (December 5) with a sign making party from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mary Tomas Gallery. We’ll have poster boards, markers, glitter, and other sign decorating goodies so you can make signs to cheer on marathoners. Come socialize with Design District friends and put those creative juices to work. It’s an open house format, so feel free to come early or late, stay for a while, or just drop by for a sec. Be sure to RSVP so we can know how many poster boards to bring.

Help us make signs to cheer on runners this Wednesday, December 5.

Help us make signs to cheer on runners this Wednesday, December 5.

On the day of the race (Sunday, December 9) we’re asking friends to meet us at the Oak Lawn amphitheater in front of Bell Design District at 8 a.m. The Breakfast Machine, winners of the Dallas’ Observer’s Best Rock Act of 2012, will be performing. New Design District Coffee shop Ascension will be open for business and serving up coffee drinks in the amphitheater from their portable coffee cart. Gandolfo’s Deli food truck will be dishing out breakfast food, including their signature breakfast sandwiches. Bring the pretty signs you made on Wednesday to hold while you cheer on the runners and enjoy the entertainment. RSVP so we can get a head count for food on Facebook.

Just a quick reminder that Oak Lawn Avenue & Dragon Street will be closed on race day. Parking on surrounding streets (Hi Line, Slocum, Inspiration, Edison) will be available via Market Center Boulevard, Stemmons Freeway, and Irving Boulevard. See more about street closures here.

Monica and I know the Design District has spirit, so let’s get out and show it on Sunday. We can’t wait to see you there!

If you are a Design District resident or business person who is running in the marathon, email me at kendall@dallasdesigndistrict.com and we’ll make sure to a have a sign made especially for you.
