Dallas’ Gas Monkey crew beats out Jesse James in Chopper Live build-off
They got second.
Discovery Channel
The Gas Monkey bike began life as a '67 Harley-Davidson shovelhead, but was chopped and rebuilt.
Tuesday was a big night for Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman, the freewheeling car-flippers from Dallas’ Gas Monkey Garage and stars of the Discovery reality series Fast N’ Loud.
Gas Monkey owner Rawlings and master mechanic Kaufman were invited this year to compete in Discovery’s Chopper Live, a motorcycle build-off competition featuring other well-known bike builders and TV stars: Austin’s Jesse James (Monster Garage) and the famously feuding American Chopper stars, Paul Teutul Sr. and Paul Teutul Jr. The competition is determined entirely by viewer vote.
There was a mountain of trash talking leading up to the live show, most of it probably manufactured for TV. At least, that’s what I assumed, until Rawlings, Kaufman, and James took the stage together and hurled so many swear words at one another, most of what they said was silenced by the live censor (who earned his or her paycheck that night). It seemed clear that James and the Gas Monkey guys clearly have some sort of legitimate beef now, regardless of whether it was originally drummed up for publicity.
Finally, after much pomp, circumstance, and posturing, the winners were revealed: Paul Teutul Jr. won the title for the second year running, and the Gas Monkey guys took second place with their bike, leaving James and Paul Sr. out in the cold.

I think Jr. had a nice bike and senior and Jesse did some awesome designing but the Gas Monkey guys build and modified an actual comfortable rideable bike. Hands down Gas monkey wins.

The Gas Monkey guys modified an old Harley and created a decent old school bike for the build off. Jesse James is a truly gifted sheet metal fabricator. He has skills you just don't see around anymore. He built his bike from scratch. He may have a chip on his shoulder and a bad reputation, but he can build anything. His bike wasn't a chopper. It was a sport bike. He built a nice bike, but Paul Jr's chopper looked Bad Ass. Nobody can question Jesse James skill set. He deserved 2nd place. Senior didn't built his bike, his guys at OCC built it with sofisticated machinery. It didn't even have a decent head light. The whole show was way over hyped. Jesse James is talented beyond silly TV show build offs. Anyone who knows cars or bikes knows he's the best. Enough said.

I am very pleased with the outcome. I believe Paul JR and Gas monkey had the better bikes. I think Jessie needed to do more working and less running his mouth then maybe he would have hit the deadline. In all business if you are given a deadline for an RFP, they could care less if you built the RFP from scratch if you don't hit the deadline then you don't get to play...... PERIOD!

I agree with the above comment. No question about it, that Jesse James has all the skills he needs. But no one made him take the deadline. I think he could probably make a bike from rolls of aluminum foil, but he is still an arrogant ahole. He signed up and knew the rules from the start. I was hoping for the Gas Monkey guys to win, but just knowing they beat Ms. James is a win in my opinion.

I also remember a time when "chopper" meant cutting down parts, removing excess parts and "chopping" anything unnecessary to improve handling and speed for your bike. Hence the name! I'm just saying........

I agree that the Gas Monkey guys are the only ones that built a true chopper!!!! They were the only ones to chop a bike and they even rebuilt an engine!!! I love that they beat Jessica with a pink bike!
I do agree with the results, Jr's bike was the best, but I do like what Gas Monkey did!

Say all you want. Jesse is the only guy that built an actual bike with his own hands old school. But our attention lacking Lindsay Lohan obsessed culture can't appreciate the fact of hands on work. Those bum Dallas jackasses took a bike chromed it, panited it, put a small tank on it, and all you dumb ass Americans go woot woot, as if they were gods gift to motorcycles. They're frauds, and should have finished last, very disappointed with the way this show was portrayed.

It was a build-off not a chop-off or restore-off. Jesse James is too impressed with his obsession for hand making every piece. OCC designed a neat bike but it was all made with computer driven machines. Gas Monkeys did what others were doing 20 years ago. Junior was the logical winner because his was the best design with lots of thought put into it. Most of what made it sing was hand made. Jesse did cement his first place finish as a-hole though.

As usual, Jesse runs his mouth non stop through the whole thing, misses the deadline, but he's jesse and no one holds him to a deadline. Then he sets the stage that if he wins it's meaningless, cuz he's only beating hacks. Well Jesse, the hacks win again! Jesse is an amazing craftsman, but that is it...he has nothing else. I just wish the networks would stop dragging his sorry ass back for another show about Jesse.

Problem is, we all contributed to Jesse,s arrogance about 10 years ago when we all bought west coast choppers t- shirt.lol. I now use mine as a shop rag!! Enough said!

If you don't build yourself then you will never understand. A craftsman is a dying breed, and when votes are cast for guys like Junior and senior who don't build themself....they just walk in now and then to see how "their " bike is going. Junior is good at buying a frame, then ordering all their parts and tins, at the end what did they "make" ....a gas tank and some trim Vinny CNC'd Wow. Gas Monkey come on what they built is being done all over at run of the mill shops (has been same style built for 30+ years), and it should have been just Aaron because he did the work while that bouncy coke head boss watched....ie pulling a Senior! When it comes down to it I hate crotch rockets but truely how many men can build one let alone like that? Jesse built a bad chopper the first time...a stainless frame forged at home come on he raw forged it! This time he made a bike not ordered made it including a trans, not to be a jerk but you reading this couldn't rebuild a trans lol....credit is due to those who BUILT a bike only Jesse did everyone else BOUGHT theirs!
