UPDATED: Dallas band Smile Smile’s new video could air on mtvU
They're competing for a slot on the music channel against four other indie acts.
DALLAS Dallas band Smile Smile has been picked to participate in mtvU’s “The Freshman” -- a program put on by the music network’s alternative channel aimed at the college crowd where indie acts merge into the mainstream.
The dynamic duo of Ryan Hamilton and Jencey Keeton joins Denton darling Sarah Jaffe in the honor of being chosen to take part in the program that could help catapult the band into the world of music television. Back in late 2010, Jaffe’s video for her track “Clementine” -- from her critically acclaimed album Suburban Nature -- competed against other several bands’ videos and won the right to be in rotation on “The Freshman.”
Smile Smile’s video for the track “Marry A Stranger” from the album of the same name is currently up for vote on mtvU’s website. Voting ends on December 28.
UPDATE: Smile Smile did not win the contest; Joshua James' “Queen Of The City” won.
