Dallas metal guitarist Mike Scaccia collapsed, died after Fort Worth concert
He reportedly asked for the strobe lights to be turned off during the show, after which he apparently suffered a seizure.
FORT WORTH Culture Map and Classic Rock Magazine are reporting that Mike Scaccia, known for his work with Ministry and Rigor Mortis, has died after collapsing in the middle of a concert in Fort Worth at The Rail Club. The cause of death is unknown, but according to a Culture Map source he collapsed on-stage during a solo. He was 47.
Band vocalist Bruce Corbitt posted on Facebook, “My brother is gone! The only reason I am who I am is because of this man. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t even be in a band. RIP Mike – the greatest guitar player I ever knew. I’m proud to say that I was always Mike Scaccia’s biggest fan, and always will be.”
At 3 a.m. his daughter posted on Facebook, “I love you so much dad. I love you so much.”
UPDATE: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Scaccia was pronounced dead at “12:26 a.m. in the emergency room at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.” He reportedly asked for the strobe lights to be turned off during the show, after which he apparently suffered a seizure.
UPDATEx2: Jeff Liles, who books the Kessler, wrote this morning on his Facebook page that Scaccia was “one of the most original and influential musicians to ever come from North Texas.” Liles, who was there for the recording of the first Rigor Mortis record in 1988, also notes that the band’s debut ”ultimately bridged the gap between thrash metal and what would become industrial music.”
