American Idol Hollie Cavanagh, from McKinney, moves to LA to record first album
Don't forget your roots, Hollie!
MCKINNEY It looks like Hollie Cavanagh, McKinney resident and one of the top four American Idol 11 contestants, will be leaving Texas soon. In an interview with Liverpool Echo, the 19 year-old talks about moving to Los Angeles to record her first album, which she hopes will be picked up by a record label once it’s finished in 2013. “There’s not a lot to do where I am,” she said. “But in LA there are labels and writers I can work with so I’m excited about moving.”
(Why the Liverpool Echo? Because Hollie was born there. Her family moved to McKinney more than 10 years ago.)
It may not come as a surprise to her American Idol fanbase that she’s planning to delve into the pop genre. “It’s going to be a pop album but I’ve always loved Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, and Whitney Houston and those big diva ballad songs. Those ballads don’t sell as much as they did when they made them so I want to do pop songs. But there will still be ballads on there as well.”
Her mom (oh, sorry, “mum”) seems happy about the move and supportive of her daughter. “I still can’t believe it. The fact she’s moving to LA to pursue her dream is unbelievable and lots of songwriters want to work with her.”
The only crazy part to me, personally, is that Hollie is leaving behind a city that was willing to gather in the thousands for her return and then give her a road sign with her name on it. Don’t forget your roots, Hollie.
