Fish City Grill to close Henderson Avenue branch

Fish City Grill on Henderson Avenue will close this weekend; its last day is Sunday. Owners Bill and Lovett Bayne announced its imminent closure via an email to customers.

"Our last day will be Sunday," said a Fish City employee. "We're one of the longest running restaurants in this strip, but it never became profitable enough."

The company is looking around the area for alternative locations, possibly Lakewood, said Bill Bayne.

"We’re doing OK here but we just never could get ourselves to a sustainable level," he said. "I’m not going to blame it on the Henderson parking situation, but we were doing fine there. The no parking on the street seemed to change things. We went from profitable and building up sales to flat sales and a struggle."

But it's also not quite the perfect fit.

"We love this neighborhood, but it's just not the right neighborhood for this concept," he said. "We shall return. We're looking for a Lakewood location right now."

I'm sad to see Fish City Grill go; I used to enjoy the occasional dinner there. Problem is, of all the other restaurants packed onto Henderson Ave, Fish City was never my first choice. I bet a lot of other nearby residents feel the same way.

Would love for them to come to Lakewood ... perhaps in the Abrams/Mockingbird area - there is definitely a need for neighborhood restaurants at that intersection.

No!!!!! I love that place. Please come to Lakewood!

CASA LINDA SHOPPING CENTER or anywhere in Lakewood would be great. Fish City on Henderson was always my FIRST choice as well as many of my friends. PLEASE RELOCATE in the area somewhere!!!

They keep saying we're getting one in Las Colinas, but it was supposed to open in October and it's still not open.

GOOD GOD! THAT EISEMANN AD is AWFUL!

Somebody email me when you get it fixed.

I thought I had something to say, but I can swat popups on a kid game site.

Loved Fish City, hated the dumbasses that made the parking lot valet only (on certain nights). Too many other places that don't have that headache to make it worthwhile.

Forget Lakewood. Come to North Oak Cliff!! We need something other than Gloria's fake food.

This makes as much sense as Cyclone Anaya's closing in Addison to make room for a Sushi bar! Egads! Can anyone say "DECKED PARKING...it'll double the parking with the same footprint! That's the ONLY think I hate about hitting the K/H/uptown area resturaunts!

Egorsti, anonymous:

The parking on Henderson is a nightmare and keeps my wife and I from going to the area too often. But what's a more irritating and widespread problem is the craziness of unnecessary and/or misapplied valet parking services for every damn restaurant in Dallas, it seems. Used to be, valet parking was for when it was difficult to park; the valets would take your car for you and park it somewhere otherwise inconvenient. Nowadays, every damn spot in front of a restaurant is coned off for valet-only parking. So you pull up next to empty spots, give the valet your keys, and watch them park it right there. Then, when you leave the restaurant, the wait for your car is much longer than the amount of time it would take you to get to your car yourself. I once waited several minutes for a valet to get into my car, which was parked less than 10 feet from the front door and which I was standing next to, then start the car, back it out, and let me get in. This city has gone nuts with valet parking!

HEre's an idea, let's build a gajillion apartments/town homes and sprinkle the occassional watering hole and resturaunt and everyone in town will come...what's that? parking? who cares they'll come anyway!

I second the potential move to Casa Linda - there's a huge space where Souper Salads used to be, for probably half the rent on Henderson. And there's PLENTY of parking!

Fish City was also my FIRST choice in the hipster strip. Sorry it's going, but hopeful it will return soon.

What do you think?
