ChopHouse Burger in downtown Dallas to open February 28

It's usually risky to announce a date, but these guys are reliable.

DALLAS — ChopHouse Burger, the new burger concept from Dallas-based DRG Concepts, has an opening date: February 28.

The restaurant, which has been under construction for a couple of months, is in the Kirby Building, along with its DRG Concepts' sibling Dallas Fish Market, and is two blocks away from its big brother Dallas Chop House and its Mexican cousin Wild Salsa.

The atmosphere at ChopHouse Burger is supposed to summon the environment of a meat market, including a butcher-like illustration of the various cuts of beef and a counter where you place your order, says DRG Concepts' Mike Hoque.

"We're sourcing some of the beef from Texas," he said. "We're also priced more affordably than other 'gourmet burger' places."

The beef is Angus ground chuck and all-natural Bonsmara beef from Amarillo.

You get a basic burger and can order add-on toppings, some of which are out of the ordinary, including caramelized onions and house-made mustards and ketchups. They'll be using some locally made cheeses and buns from Empire Baking Co. -- always a good sign.
