Denton named most under-recognized music city

In these parts, we recognize it.

Denton has long been one of Dallas-Fort Worth's best music neighborhoods, but that's not a known fact to people outside of DFW, according to a culture blog called Listverse. On Monday, Denton was named the No. 1 under recognized music location in the world.

Listverse posts a daily list, such as Sunday's "15 Female Oscar Snubs of the Past 15 Years" and gets about 10 million pageviews a month. Not a bad stage for Denton to get the spotlight.

Says Listverse: "Denton has a music scene that is beginning to rival that of Austin’s. Denton has hundreds of artists in which every genre is represented. Its music scene has rapidly developed in the last decade. Indie music is the primary staple of Denton music. Denton also has a a festival that is made to rival SXSW, called 35 Denton. It also features a popular Jazz festival."

The article cites Bowling For Soup, Fishboy, Meat Loaf, Neon Indian, and The Riverboat Gamblers as popular Denton bands.

Houston was the No. 8 most under-recognized music city, praising its rap scene. And apparently Iceland's music culture has more to it than just Bjork.
