Star Community Newspapers purchased by 1013 Communications

1013 Communications owns a number of newspapers in Arizona.

Star Community Newspapers, publisher of 15 area newspapers, has been purchased by 1013 Communications, a media company specializing in publishing local community newspapers. The sale was made final Tuesday. Roger Will, publisher of Star Community Newspapers, said joining 1013 Communications is "great news for the communities we serve.

"The acquisition provides for continued independent publishing of award-winning newspapers in some of the country's fastest-growing communities."

"The leadership of 1013 Communications and of Star Community Newspapers shares a common vision that provides an independent local voice for our regions," Will said. "Each day, our reporters strive to report fresh, important stories that impact the resident of our communities. Whether the beat is governmental, public safety, sports or human interest, our reporters fill the dual roles of community watchdog and community booster."

Will said there will be some new looks arriving in a short period of time.

"Our readers can look forward to some excellent changes coming over the next several weeks," he said. "They will find a more lively and colorful newspaper being delivered at more consistent times. They will find more features on local citizens and local events. In some cases, they will receive their newspaper on a different day, but always with the intention to improve the product they receive."

1013 Communications owns a number of newspapers in Arizona as well as Arizona Interactive Media Group. 1013 describes itself as "not your run-of-the-mill media company" on its website.

"Our innovative publications, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning East Valley Tribune, fill a distinct niche in Arizona's suburban communities - one that's not being met by the area's more traditional media sources. Our papers boast hyper-local reporting and an innovative distribution model. We're tied to our communities through our papers' histories and reputations, and residents know our papers' names by heart."

Star Community Newspapers has publications in Southlake, Flower Mound, Lewisville, Coppell, Carrollton, The Colony, Plano, Frisco, Little Elm, Celina, McKinney, Allen, Rowlett, Mesquite, and Sunnyvale.
