UPDATED with photos: Blues legend Johnny Winter plays Granada February 1

Check out some photos.

UPDATE x2: Here are some photos of Johnny Winter's performance at the Granada Theater Wednesday night. Scroll down to read more about Winter and his legacy to American blues.

Original story:

You'll want to make time for American blues-rock guitarist Johnny Winter when he makes a stop at the Granada Theater on February 1.

[UPDATE: On Tuesday, January 24, the Granada announced that the show has sold out.]

Winter was influenced by classic blues artists Muddy Waters and B.B. King at an early age, and at just 15 years old, he formed his own band, Johnny and the Jammers.

In 1968, Winter released his first album, The Progressive Blues Experiment. That same year, he signed with Columbia Records. His musical style moved towards rock 'n' roll when he formed the band Johnny Winter And, which included his brother Edgar as well as guitarist Rick Derringer. This was the start of a recording career that yielded a whopping 18 studio albums and eight live recordings.

In addition to his own music, he’s produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for blues legend Muddy Waters. Johnny’s been nominated for Grammys for a few of his own albums, and in 1988 he was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame.

He still tours extensively. In his career, he's performed at Woodstock, Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam. The Gibson Guitar Company has a Johnny Winter signature edition of its Firebird guitar.

If you can't wait until February to sing the blues, watch Winter on David Letterman on Thursday, January 12.
