Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, January 12-18
The Fort Worth Stock Show, Texas Rangers, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrations are your best bets.
The holiday hangover appears to be over. After taking an extended break, event organizers are back at it in full force. Of course, it doesn't hurt that there's a big annual event about to start and another holiday for us to celebrate. But we'll take what we can get.
The behemoth known as the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo will take up residence at the Will Rogers Memorial Center starting on Friday and stay there until February 4. The next three weeks will bring all the rodeo action you can handle, including tributes to Ranching Heritage and Mexico. Make sure to take advantage of special discount days for the military, senior citizens, and anybody wearing Dickies.
Yes, the Texas Rangers broke our hearts in October (again), but each new season brings renewed hope. While spring training is still over a month away, you can start getting fired up for the 2012 season by going to the 2012 Texas Rangers Fan Fest, taking place Friday through Sunday at the Arlington Convention Center. Get autographs from your favorite current and former players, play a little Wiffle ball, and just revel in the fact that baseball is just around the corner.
Finally, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is on Monday, and various cities will be throwing parades either on Monday or over the weekend. Denton will hold theirs at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center on Saturday, while Dallas and Fort Worth will hold their celebrations on Monday, at Fair Park and the Fort Worth Convention Center, respectively.
