Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, January 19-26
Dallas Children's Theater's latest, a LEGO competition, and the annual KidFilm festival are your best bets.
It's difficult getting used to the rhythm of a new year. Even though things haven't changed much since 2011 turned into 2012, the mental aspect of getting used to all the little differences takes some time. Fortunately, there are some constants, such as the wealth of fun kids and family events to attend each and every week. Below are this week's best.
Dallas Children's Theater opens up their 2012 season with an adaptation of the popular children's book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (starting Friday at Rosewood Center and playing through February 12). Be prepared for lots of pratfalls as a young boy home alone discovers that all sorts of things can happen when you give a rodent a yummy treat.
Toys meet real world concerns at The Hockaday School in Dallas on Saturday when they host the North Texas First LEGO League Championship Tournament. Competitors were tasked with finding a way to improve the food delivery system, and then represent their innovations via LEGO-based robots. This free event is the culmination of five months of hard work for each of the teams, so they deserved to be cheered for their efforts.
