Khloe Kardashian debuts her radio show on Dallas’ MIX 102.9 KDMX-FM
With call-ins from fellow reality stars.
DALLAS Khloe Kardashian Odom debuted "The Mix Up with Khloé Kardashian Odom," her daily noontime radio show on MIX 102.9 KDMX-FM on Monday with her mom Kris in the studio, and phone calls from her brother Rob and reality-TV star Kyle Richards.
"Hey dolls, it's Khloe," she said, using her signature "dolls" phrase, before introducing "Stronger," a song by "Dallas native" Kelly Clarkson.
Honestly, there wasn't much to it: Maybe a dozen songs with a couple of listener queries and call-ins. The Kyle Richards call was pretty clearly a tit-for-tat exchange: You call in to my radio show, I'll promote your TV show.
"I'm so grateful you are doing my very first radio show with me, I love radio," Khloe said, before asking Richards about the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion show airing Monday night. They kvetched about the indignities of reality TV, where they get criticized over "the stupidest things" and are accused of staging scenes.
"I don't like when they say somebody made me say that," Khloe said. "It's not a character, it is just one side of you."
"You and your sisters gave me good advice," Kyle said.
Right after "All The Small Things" by Blink-182 and right before "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5, a listener suggested she visit drag-queen haunt the Rose Room. "Can my brother Rob go or will he get freaked out?" she asked. "I'm Rob, too!" the listener said. "I have a lot of Robs in my life -- my makeup artist is Rob," Khloe said.
Brother Rob called in for all of a minute, during which Khloe ribbed him about his diet. "Anyone who saw Season 1 of Khloe & Lamar might know that my brother has a bipolar eating disorder -- either he's at Taco Bell at 2 in the morning and then orders a whole pizza, and then lies about it and hides food under his bed, or the next week ..." but before she could finish, he interrupted. "I eat poorly when I’m not working out because I don’t care, there’s no point," he said.
And then suddenly, abruptly, it was over, three minutes before the end of the hour with an onslaught of ads -- to make up for the commercial-free 57 minutes that preceded it.

You know the saying "if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything"? Here's what I have to say about Khloe's radio show:

Can someone rationally explain to me what exactly is the fascination with this family? I mean what exactly have they done? I've never watched one minute of their show so I honestly have no idea what the obsession is, especially from the media.
I did think it funny, though, the guy from NBC last night kept calling her "klee-o"

razor: the short answer is because we're monkeys. The longer answer is that because of our biological and sociological evolution, we're most comfortable in groups of a certain size - somewhere around 150 people maximum - where everyone knows each other.
In modern society, most of our circles of friends don't know each other, so it's hard for us to gossip - which is serves the same purpose for us as grooming does to monkeys.
Celebrities fill that gap - everyone knows who they are, and we can all talk about them.
Right now, we're just picking bugs out of each others' fur. Even you - you're doing it. You might hate 'em, you might be annoyed with them, but you're talking about them, aren't you?
Your lice taste nice today.

razorphreak, i can give it a shot: it's similar-looking sisters who are all attractive, have a lot of money, grew up in Los Angeles, and are / or have been / married to public figures.
their following seems to be young females who admire their beauty and sense of style. the relationships between the sisters are prototypical so you can observe Kim-Kourtney-Khloe chat and spat and possibly learn something about family interactions
Khloe specifically seems warm-hearted and genuine, and is responsive to her twitter followers - when one of them asks her to wish them a happy birthday, she often does
when all else fails: i've heard that her sister Kim's main appeal is that she has a noteworthy derriere

Resident socialogist has spoken.
It sounds so much more humane than "people are all shallow empty losers." Let's go with it.

Kim has a sex tape. That was the first anyone saw of the sisters. I personally avoid them and all about them but did have to respond to the "attractive" comment. IMO not really. But then none of them are really my type.

lisaltx, they're not my type either. [i forgot about the sex tape.] but i tend to want to defend or at least understand female public figures with a following among young girls, especially since they're so frequently dismissed as marginal. i saw the same sneering about the Spice Girls and more recently Taylor Swift, whose primary audiences were also young women

@TG: Yes, I did listen for @ 30 minutes (and only because I knew you were going to critique the show!). It sounded like it was previously taped because it was so formulaic and unnatural but if you say they took live calls then maybe it was live. I had a really difficult time with the music.

Hey I like the Spice Girls and Taylor Swift. Both have demonstrable talent and are entertaining. I've seen neither from any of the Kardashian sisters.

TLS, you are clairvoyant (or i'm predictable). i thought some of those segments sounded pre-recorded, too - forgot to mention that. you sharpie

Here I stand corrected. I thought they had nothing noteworthy.
