New lanes of U.S. Highway 380, State Highway 289 overpass to open in mid-February
289 is being widened for four miles north of 380.
The overpass at U.S. Highway 380 and State Highway 289 is being replaced.
Construction of the two new lanes of the bridge is nearly complete. The Texas Department of Transportation hopes to open the two new lanes in mid-February. The old bridge will then be demolished so two more lanes can be constructed.
Eventually the Texas Department of Transportation bridge project will be six lanes to go along with the widening of State Highway 289.
TxDOT funding for the bridge project is about $13.3 million.
Two more TxDOT projects will soon be under way to widen State Highway 289 from U.S. Highway 380 to Farm-to-Market Road 455 to six lanes. Construction will start in March or April on those projects.
Widening State Highway 289 from the U.S. Highway 380 exchange to North of Farm-to-Market Road 1461 will cost about $23.1 million. Moving utility lines has already started on this project.
About $24.6 million has been allocated for the widening of State Highway 289 from Farm-to-Market Road 1461 to Farm-to-Market Road 455, a little more than four miles.
TxDOT Area Engineer Barry Heard said that both State Highway 289 widening projects will take about two years. The road will be under construction through most of 2014.
Mario Sinacola and Sons Excavating, Inc. is the construction company for all three projects.
