— Fulfilling many months of gloomy speculation, Craft Dallas will close this month to be replaced by a new W Hotel gastropub concept called Cook Hall.

An employee at the hotel confirmed that the closure would take place "by the end of the month -- that's the word we're getting right now," he said.

Cook Hall will be the first branch of a concept that'll unroll in several W Hotels, and the direction will come from Culinary Concepts, the restaurant development company Starwood formed in partnership with chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

The concept will be "beverage-centric," with upscale small plates and checks topping out at $45 to $50, rather than the $75 to $100 price tag. They'll be adding a bar in the restaurant and -- gulp -- TVs.

UPDATE: W Dallas – Victory made its official announcement with dates: Craft Dallas will close at the end of summer, and Cook Hall will reopen in early fall.

They also announced that Ghostbar, the hotel’s 33rd floor destination nightclub, will close later this month. Plans for the space are being finalized with management and ownership and will be announced soon.

This will be the first Cook Hall, confirmed W spokeswoman Karla Neely, but she said that more were on the way in other cities -- "possibly Atlanta," she said.

What do you guys think of the name Cook Hall? I think it sounds like a college cafeteria. Doesn't seem to fit with the W's motif.

I agree, Sarah. The name isn't intriguing enough for me to want to check it out.

This is amazing. That W would downscale their signature restaurant with a midmarket concept(and decidedly midmarket name) AND close their most visable asset, Gost Bar, at the same time, signals a change in management direction away from luxury presentation toward a less exclusive image. In other words, they're not getting enough high-rollers, so they're looking to pull a few more 'regular' folks in. If this concept is applied to Victory as a whole, you might actually see some real live people wondering around the place, even when the Mavs and Stars aren't at home in the AAC. Only downside is the loss of a little cachet. But of course, there IS no cachet without cash.

Khloe Kardashian moves away and the whole place changes!

OK, maybe that's not what happened.
