The Dallas Morning News acquires Pegasus News
The purchase further strengthens The Dallas Morning News’ position as the leading source of up-to-date local news and entertainment information.
DALLAS The Dallas Morning News announced today that it has acquired Pegasus News (www.pegasusnews.com), an online news and information business serving Dallas-Fort Worth, from PanLocal Media LLC, a subsidiary of Archstream LLC of Dallas. The purchase further strengthens The Dallas Morning News’ position as the leading source of up-to-date local news and entertainment information.
Rich Alfano, general manager of The Dallas Morning News’ Arts and Entertainment business, said, “Pegasus News allows us to reach more consumers and strengthens our ability to provide the latest and most relevant information about places to visit, events, music and restaurants. Pegasus News’ hyperlocal data provides consumers with information on approximately 225,000 places, 5,000 events, 4,200 restaurants, 2,500 bands and Friday Night specials.”
Sarah Blaskovich, editor of Pegasus News, said, “By combining Pegasus News’ content and technology with The Dallas Morning News’ distribution, marketing and sales capabilities, we are creating new and exciting opportunities for Pegasus’ audiences and advertisers. It's an exciting time for digital news and information companies like Pegasus News, and we’re thrilled to be teaming up with the largest creator of proprietary local news and information in Dallas-Fort Worth.”

Although I haven't been involved with PegNews since I left last year, I'm thrilled to see this happen. I'm betting my old team and my pals at the DMN will make magic together. I've always wanted the platform we built and that the current team built upon to reach the biggest audience possible -- the DMN is a home where that can happen.
Congrats to all!

So does this mean the site will soon be fee-based and I'll get annoying "subscribers only" messages that just make me go get my news elsewhere? The DMN unfortunately does not understand how online media works (i.e., you don't charge for what you can get elsewhere for free).

BrandonR and Jason Rice, I know some of our longtime readers may be concerned about this change. We assure you we'll be the same Pegasus News you remember. We're excited for the opportunity to use our brand in a bigger way. Stick with us!

Pop-overs already happened; that's why I'm Damn Yankee, now, instead of Pavel, because I boycotted 'em hard for a year.
And then I came back.
And then they got bought.
Coincidence? I think not.
Also, Jason, I'm right there with you on the snark issue. If they can't handle me, then I'll just write my comments on postcard and mail them in anonymously, the address scribbled angrily on the envelope out of home-made ketchup-and-rat-hair ink.

Agree with steeled. Hope DMN doesn't screw this up. Their writers are mediocre at best, restaurant reviews are usually off base, the facebook comments are awful....oh, and every summer their sports writers somehow convince themselves that the Cowboys are going to the Super Bowl.... Hope they leave PegNews alone.

Wow! As a long time Pegasus News fan.....not sure what to think. My least favorite news site in DMN, but I will give Pegasus a chance with new owners. Once the ads and pop-ups are too much - or the charge a fee...I am out. I guess I will have to stick to the Observer site for local info.

I suppose I must congratulate PegNews on what appears to be a nice payday, but honestly, I feel kind of like my best friend in school, the wiseguy kid I always liked to hang out and get into trouble with, became a cop. He's still my friend, but I don't talk to him the same way. Altnews sources are patronized for a particular reason: it's because we either dislike or distrust the mainstream media source, or both. The DMN is very good at co-opting the competition. Unfortunately, for that competition and their followers, they don't always stick around too long. I'm sure everyone at PegNews is smart enough to hold onto your Rolodexes. If you still use those antiques. The nice thing about electronic media, BTW, is, all it takes is a laptop and an i-net connection, and you're in business! Good Luck!

And I sense this some years back with very little reward..but gave to give and I have been loyal....very loyal....to say, why have some owner shove a new guy into my box....and the new owner will do that.....while who is the new Dallas Guy....Change...YOU HAVE TO ADMIT...no one is really in control..but it has to happend....real or phonie...A/T

Where's Gubbins? She's been the most consistent source of original content on Pegasus News since its launch five years ago, during which time she's broken scads of big food news (including, within the past couple of weeks, the pending closure of Craft Dallas). She's been completely silent on the site ever since the announcement of the DMN acquisition and, despite questions about her in this thread, Pegasus News has not clearly stated whether she's still with the organization or not. Sarah, can you clarify the situation?

Ok, I'll wade in... since I can confirm precisely that I know NOTHING. -- And for the record, I have TRIED to find out... NADA.
Obviously, we see she is no longer listed as user/contributor/XYZ
Secondly, nobody has heard from her.
I don't know how many of you have been through this magnitude of reorganization, but they are always HELL. People get screwed. Period.
Moreover, when people, especially signature or customer facing people, are let go in them, there is some paltry severance offered in return for you signing away your whole life SPECIFICALLY the right to voice any opinion on your former employer, His/Her policies, His/Her actions, His/her handling of the situation -- heck even their taste in footwear from now till eternity is off the topic block - or they can legally crucify you.
No, it's usually NOT worth the severance package, but you just got blindsided and need the money and they freakin' have you by the red line.
Now the folks stuck here fielding our suspicion and flaccid rage are twice as stuck. They have jobs for the moment and whether thrilled about the state of things or not had better appear thrilled about the state of things. (Welcome to "show-biz")
This may be the darned best thing in the world to happen to our beloved Peggers. Heck, they may look back from their mahogany inlaid penthouse apartments someday and thank their lucky stars for this, but frankly, with rent due each month, even if it ranks up there with an Ebola outbreak, they have to stay public-facing happy and joyful. Um. It's a job.
I deeply hope everything is awesome and great and beyond cool, (You can tell by my tone of voice, I'm bluffing) but on the off chance this is anything shy of Valhalla, cut them some slack on this and don't tar their credibility for meeting personal obligations.

Honestly, if the rest of the PegNews staff gets sold into some sort of... I hesitate to use the word "slavery", but let's just say that if they end up rowing a longboat up a river to help their new bosses pillage a village (heh), it would still have been worth it from my site to get to know T-Gub, and to steal a Pegasus News banner and hold it hostage.
