UPDATED with menus: Forks up, Restaurant Week 2012 is August 13-19

Hard Rock Cafe made the list. Yikes.

Get your forks ready, folks: You can make reservations starting Monday, July 16 for KRLD Restaurant Week August 13-19. The annual event affords food-interested types a three-course prix fixe dinner for $35 per person -- generally cheaper than most fine dining restaurants would otherwise charge. Diners can also try a three-course prix fixe lunch for $25 at select locations. Donations of $7 for each dinner and $5 for each lunch go to North Texas Food Bank in Dallas or Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth.

Some restaurants will expand their Restaurant Week specials until August 26 or even September 2. Diners also can get a preview at select restaurants from August 10 through August 12.

You decide which kind of diner you are: Make a weekful of reservations and go nuts for the low pricing, or pick one special night to try that place you hadn't been able to convince yourself was worth a $200 tab.

Serious foodies will scoff at Restaurant Week, suggesting it's for cheapie diners who will subject themselves to subpar food and packed houses that don't reflect that eatery's real ability. To the rest, we say: Eat your hearts out.

If you shop at Central Market July 16 through September 2, ask for a Fourth Course certificate if you purchase $25 or more -- and who doesn't spend that when they buy at Central Market? Usually an appetizer, the Fourth Course comes free during Restaurant Week with a Central Market voucher. Valid for dinner only.

The 2012 Restaurant Week list contains the standard fare from past years, like Dean Fearing's self-titled restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton and most of the big-name steak houses. We are shocked to see Hard Rock Cafe on the list, and a little taken aback to find downtown Dallas Mexican spot Wild Salsa on the list, given its casual atmosphere.

Unsurprisingly, Top Chef Tiffany Derry's new spot Private Social made the cut, as did Oak Cliff's new resto Campo Modern Country Bistro. Fulbelli's Restaurant, all the way up in Sherman, was added, too.

Get your calendars and check books out. Here's the list in full:

UPDATE: Still deciding where to eat? Let us help. We've added links to the Restaurant Week menus for many of the participants. You can find them in the restaurants list above in bold. We'll continue adding menus as the stragglers release theirs.

Reservations alert: Central 214 and Morton's have decided to extend their participation through August 26 and September 2, respectively.

Shannon Sutlief, staff:

It's the final week of the 2012 Restaurant Week season. More than 60 places are still participating. See the list above to find which ones and links to their menus. Both Nosh locations have decided to extend through September 2 instead of ending August 26.
