Affordable home of the week: 335 South Edgefield Avenue in Dallas
A Winnetka Heights gem.
One of the reasons I am in love with Winnetka Heights is the abundance of huge front porches that are begging for a glass of something cold and a few friends and neighbors. But as soon as I saw this cute prairie home at 335 South Edgefield Avenue from Keller Williams’ Lisa Richardson, all of the sudden the missing big front porch wasn’t a deal-killer anymore. Besides, both next-door neighbors have ample porch accommodations, so you are never a long walk from a place to people-watch.
I actually drove by this home this past weekend when I was heading over to Bastille on Bishop in the bustling Bishop Arts District. There were tons of people on the street, either biking or walking, all headed to the district to enjoy some wine, petanque, and mussels. And this three-bedroom, three-bath cutie is not far from all the action. In fact, it’s pretty stinkin’ close!
Now, there are a couple of things you won’t find in this house, and one of them is high-end finishes. There’s no granite or stainless in the kitchen, and the bathrooms are basic but clean. That’s because you’re getting a 1,672-square-foot home in one of the hottest neighborhoods in Oak Cliff for just $217,360! There will be plenty left over in your budget for upgrades!
You also won’t find boring neutral shades like taupe and sand on the walls, and you won’t miss them, either! I love the way the kitchen and dining area are painted with high-contrast, stylish shades of lemon yellow and graphite. It’s a gorgeous palette of sexy grays throughout the rest of the home. I would expect nothing less from a cornflower blue house!
The backyard is spacious, too, and perfect for small gatherings of friends and neighbors. It’s a great yard for a vegetable garden, and I’ll bet that the next owner of this home puts in a chicken coop, too! Of course, those gals are going to want a front porch!
