Spec’s to open in old Blockbuster Video space at Preston Royal in Dallas
Tentatively slated to open within the month.
DALLAS Spec's has signed on to open its second store in Dallas at Preston Royal Village, in the old Blockbuster Video space.
A spokesperson for the shopping center said that they hoped to have the store open by the end of the month, but that they were waiting for confirmation on the date from Spec's.
"I can't give you a definitive date, but we are hoping it will be by the end of the month," she said.
"Unfortunately, I don't have a date yet, but we hope it's soon," said Spec's spokesperson Lisa Rydman-Key, in an email.
While the Tom Thumb in the same center sells beer and wine, this will be the first stand-alone liquor store to open in the intersection since Dallas loosened its alcohol laws in 2010.
Not coincidentally, this is also the same intersection where Central Market opened a smaller store with great fanfare in February.
The Blockbuster space is about 10,000 square feet, and will be taken up entirely by Spec's.

I went to the Spec's at Walnut Hill and Central. Just to find it, and figure out where the entrance is, you need a GPS!
Then when I went to check out, they were going to charge me more for a bottle of wine than what I remember the price said on the tag.
It turns out that in order to get the price on the tag, you can't use a credit or debit card! Otherwise they jack up the price!!!!
I was furious!
I go to a restaurant that gives you a discount if you pay cash, but it's a percentage OFF THE MENU PRICE, not JACKING UP THE PRICE AT THE REGISTER IF YOU PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD!

Dear Unlisted,
If you'll put your readers on you'll notice that there are TWO prices listed on every item at Spec's. The lower price is for those paying with cash AND credit. The higher price is for debit.
Spec's doesn't hide either price and notifies you in several places around the store as to their pricing structure.
Thanks for playing.

It's kinda shocking when you suddenly learn just how badly the credit card fees jack retailers around, isn't it?
So yes, a retailer can actually LOSE money on credit card purchases if they are piddly little $2-$3 transactions. Welcome to reality.

I think Specs is in violation of TABC sec 22.04 that states nobody may own more than 5 liquor stores in the state of Texas. But the TABC don't care about the law.
