Dessert review: Casa Linda Bakery in Dallas

Clown cookies are a great way to quiet down a screaming toddler.

Casa Linda Bakery

Casa Linda Bakery is one of those bakeries that just make you feel good. They offer no frills and a low price point to go along with it. They have been doing the same thing, the same way since the 1940’s and I see no reason to change it now.

The clown cookies at Casa Linda Bakery are probably one of the best dessert memories of my childhood. My mother grew up in the Casa Linda area of Dallas, so for the first half a dozen years of my life it was our stomping ground. And what better way to quiet down a screaming toddler than to promise them a pastry. A huge chewy sugar cookie topped with mounds of icing and totaling less than $2? Sign me up! I have been known to eat four in one sitting. I love cookies, but cookies with icing make my heart skip a beat. I recently had an adult circus themed party and it seemed fitting to have some clown cookies from Casa Linda Bakery crash the party.

My other go to pastry from Casa Linda Bakery is the cheese pocket. You guys know that I rave about the cheese pockets from Stein’s Bakery. I have had many a sleepless night trying to figure out which one I prefer. To be honest, they are both amazing in their own way and I wouldn’t turn down either one. As a matter of fact, I would mush them together in one big cheese pocket orgy with me as the star. Too far?

The Petit Four’s are pretty popular here as well; because along with the standard vanilla and chocolate, they have lemon, strawberry and turtle. The lemon is my personal favorite.

From thumbprint cookies to their famous parker house rolls, you really can’t go wrong. I can probably safely say in my 31 years on this planet, I have sampled every carb-centric items that Casa Linda Bakery offers and I haven’t found one that hasn’t made me swoon yet.
