UPDATED: Pearl Cup Coffee to open location in Richardson
The opening has been pushed back to December 2012.
RICHARDSON Pearl Cup Coffee announced that it will open another location this fall in Richardson, at 2701 Custer Pkwy, Suite 917, in the II Creeks shopping center in Richardson.
Slated to open in late August or early September "around Christmastime" in 2012, the branch will serve beer and wine in addition to coffee.
Co-owner Carlene Saelg said that serving beer and wine was something they'd always considered, and it made sense for Richardson.
"The Henderson branch is surrounded by bars and when we opened, we didn't want to play into that scene," she said. "That doesn't mean we won't do it in the future. But we did know that, going into another area of town, we planned to have beer and wine, and going forward, it will be part of our concept."
She said that they're enthusiastic about the Richardson location.
"We are so excited -- it's in a very nice neighborhood and it's on a bike route, so there's lots of cyclists," she said. "We're a mile from University of Texas at Dallas. There's such synergy in that II Creeks center. We went around and met the other tenants and they were so welcoming."
II Creeks is on the corner of Custer Parkway and Valley Glenn Drive; it's home to Richardson Community Theatre and Sweet Firefly, the ice cream and dessert shop.
This will be Pearl Cup's third location, after the original on Henderson Avenue and the branch in downtown Dallas. They already announced in March that they'll open location at the Sylvan | Thirty development in 2013.
They were a runner-up for "Ultimate Best Coffee Bar" in 2011, so that's saying something.
And their barista Mike Mettendorf won a barista challenge -- the same one we wrote about back in 2009 -- at the Southwest Food Expo, going on this week in Dallas.

I left a message for the owner several hours ago to learn more about the coffee truck, and I'll also ask about this. My buddies at the UTD Mercury say it'll open the second week in November -- next week! http://www.utdmercury.com/life_arts/a...
I'll get some more info for you.
