New winesicles from Dallas startup are like popsicles for adults
In two flavors: mimosa orange and sangria grape.
Winesicles are a genius new product that is exactly how it sounds: a Popsicle for adults that contains wine.
They come in two flavors, sangria grape and mimosa orange, and they're being made in Dallas by SocialIce Incorporated, a Dallas-based startup from a trio of guys -- founder Michael Seyfried and his friends Kevin Schweitzer and Christian Diez -- who've known each other since grammar school.
"The company was Michael's idea," says Diez, who is handling marketing. "This is his baby. He brought on his two best friends, myself and Kevin. We've known each other since we were little kids."
They've been at it since last October, doing private events, festivals, and farmers markets, and just started delivering them to 303 Bar & Grill and the pool bar at the Belmont Hotel.
The project is for now completely DIY, with the trio of friends making and delivering the product themselves.
"The sangria has sangria wine and grapes, we chop them up so there are little pieces in there," Diez says. "For the mimosa, we use sparkling white wine and oranges. The sparkling wine we get from Greenville, Texas-based Landon Winery. We package it ourselves and make sure not to use any chemicals or artificial ingredients."
Each winesicle costs about $5 to $6, depending on where you buy it. One of the complications was the fact that it's both a food product and an alcohol product.
"Mike was talking for almost 10 months, getting all proper certifications," Diez says. "Since this is a new product, we couldn't just go to TABC and sign a form. But we have all the proper certifications from the food industry and alcohol industry."
While they're pleased to have their product at places like the Belmont and the 303 Bar & Grill, they've been busy fulfilling individual orders for people who want the winesicles for parties, weddings, and corporate events. And they've been at some kind of festival every weekend since they launched. They'll be at Kaboom Town on July 4th 3rd, and are also at the Four Seasons Farmers Market in Richardson every Saturday.
