Eppa sangria is a lovely new bottled wine from Fort Worth native
Nice for summer with a splash of soda.
Eppa SuperFruit Red Sangria is one of those products you didn't know you needed until you try it and find it ingenious. It's a bottled sangria made with organic wine and fruit juices that are not only 1. real, they also 2. come high in antioxidants.
For "skinny" drink fans, the sangria is 120 calories per glass.
The fact that the sangria was created by Fort Worth native Britt West is just the orange slice in the sangria.
Eppa Sangria contains Mendocino Cabernet and Syrah with juice from pomegranates, blueberries, blood oranges, and acai berries. The acai gives it an exotic spiciness, although West -- who resides in Miami but who's in Dallas to announce its arrival at local Whole Foods Markets -- said that most people get a hit of blueberry up front.
West said that, while you can get sangria at some restaurants, there aren't that many options for having it at home other than making it yourself.
"It's not hard to make sangria but this is more convenient if you don't feel like cutting up the fruit and mixing it up," he said. "And the particular juices in Eppa have higher functional benefits."
Pomegranates and blueberries have become rock-star fruits ever since they were identified as possessing high amounts of antioxidants, which offer protection against pollution, chemicals, cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Red wine also has antioxidants, making the Eppa sangria a pretty potent brew.
It's also a red wine that's good cold -- yay summer drink. West recommended serving it over ice with a splash of club soda for effervescence. It has 8.5% alcohol, and retails for $11.99.
