UPDATED: Big Rich Texas‘ Pamela Martin-Duarte has prior felony conviction

Duarte spent time in jail in the 1980s for forgery.

Pamela Martin Duarte

Style Network’s Big Rich Texas star, Pamela Martin Duarte, has been calling fellow cast members “frauds” all season long. Does forgery fall into that category?

Fannin County criminal records, specifically case number 16237, indicate that Duarte (Hagerty at the time, which appears to be one name before she was Martin and two before Duarte) was convicted of forgery on 11/21/1980. The report also says “confinement is to commence on 08/27/1980, county jail.”

The case has an Order of Dismissal entered 12/11/1985.

UPDATE: If I’m reading this version of events correctly, it looks like Duarte was arrested in May of 1980 and given six months probation. Then it appears that while on probation, she was arrested again and given a five-year probation sentence. But again, that’s strictly my interpretation.

What about your outstanding WARRANT with the city of Dallas! Eh? You are a hypocrit and I can't believe that you would go back 30+ years to get back at this lady. Before you go digging for dirt in other peoples yard, you better make sure that your backyard is clean. I expect you to delete this comment, just like you deleted the one at merrittpatterson.com.

info9172, anonymous:

No one fact checked any of this news which is FALSE and Patterson you have no excuse since you are the criminal. Martin never served time and she was a kid and these charges were dropped. This offense happened when she was 17 and today this charge would not have been ranked so harshly. The note says under $20 on all charges which still totaled out under $100. Your intent to harm her reputation will result in harsh recourses. Maybe you are already in jail since you have 2 warrants out for your arrest. Go check that in public records and tell the world!

Alex Bentley, staff:

info9172, we did fact check this info before we posted it. The link embedded on "specifically case number 16237" takes you directly to the court case record, which shows that Pamela Hagerty (now Duarte) was convicted on Felony Forgery charges. Merritt never says that Duarte spent any time in jail, so we see nothing false about this post.

info9172, anonymous:

Alex Bentley staff the headline you have posted says Martin spent time in jail in the 80's which is false You and Ms Patterson did not fact check anything and dissimenation of public records is a crime in the state of Texas. Maybe you want to check that fact as well? I see a major liability here.

Jason Rice, verified:

Oooh... info9172 spent all his free Public Record searches on Alex. For the $50 signup he might be able to search zip codes.

With over 50 people named Alex(*) Bentley, it might let him narrow it down. And gimme a whirl while your at it. Might as well be "John Smith" --- knock yourself out.

miaskiracer, anonymous:

@jason rice. . . You make no sense. This article was a malicious story about a woman when she was 17 years old to smear her reputation. When the author of the story has a outstanding warrant, it's hypocritical.

Jason Rice, verified:

I'm often told I make no sense. It's usually by rambling muckrakers, but that may or may not be the case.

The story is indeed about hypocrisy. You have a minor celebrity whose current claim to fame is accusing people of fraud, with indeed a documented conviction of... well... fraud. "She was a kid. It was youthful indiscretion. Adjusted for modern value dollars it's trivial." Um, Faking a signature was always pretty much a known illegal thing. Duh. Fraud. Not much high ground to gain or lose.

Ok, definitely worth a guilty schadenfreude giggle, fleeting and inconsequential, but a distraction. Done.

And the accusation above by anonymous infoXYZX was malicious and attempts to tar the staff member and the author - with absolutely no offered documentation.

The article is journalism... not of the highest stripe, as it is discussing some amazingly trivial gossip about a flimsy entertainment based entirely upon insignificant gossip, contention, and fabrication, but with journalistic underpinning of research. No, I won't be tuning in to watch so-and-so backstab so-and-so. I'm busy that day.

"Ooooh, I'll use PublicRecord.com or ArrestWarrantRecords.com and search for a name that can readily be shown belongs to dozens of people. Then I'll post it as fact. Then I'll attribute an article I don't like to them and 'presto' I'm a journalist." My assumption is they didn't find anything interesting on any "Alex Bentley" or they'd have shared that with us, too.

And to your direct point:
The author never claims to be anything. She only reports the ironic, and one might say iconic, disconnect between a celebrity, their actions, and their words. You see, to be a hypocrite*, you must say one thing and do another.

* Ya see, if you called someone out for not backing up accusations with facts, accuse them of something and then offer no documentation on that accusation, THAT would be hypocrisy. ...Kinda like thinking you're funny, but having to explain the entire joke.

miaskiracer, anonymous:

Oh cods wallop, the author is a hypocrit and the public record on Pattersons' warrant is with the City of Dallas, go look it up yourself in the city records division. . . And do us all a favor and shut the efff up with your bumbling BS.

miaskiracer, anonymous:

Ps: be sure to go to the "Criminal Records Division" at 133 North Riverfront Blvd, Dallas. Oh and this warrant isn't 30+ years ago!

Jason Rice, verified:

And do us all a favor and shut the efff up with your bumbling BS.

And if nothing else has benefited you in your brief yet sanctimonious time here, let it ne'er be said that you left unaware of the existence of spell check.

Why don't you take your smug attitude and shove it in your pea brain! You attack people for stating their opinion or a fact in an effort to stifle their first amendment rights, I just bet you are a loony liberal . . . Typical rhetorical spews! Blah blah blah! Lmao!

Excuse me while I go throw up for not being a perfect speller, I don't have time to, I work. I don't have time to study people's blog comments and find ways to critique them all day. Oh and thank you, who knew that you could be the blog spelling police! Is that a profession or a hobby? Quess you can't get a job with your criminal history, unless of coarse the Obama administration has an opening. :D

miaskiracer, anonymous:

PS: I'm so glad that you at least understand the word, because you most definitely spelled it correctly. You are right, I should write it down because I will be saying it alot in the upcoming election when describing the incumbent president. Lol

For those among us keeping score at home, this is from a thread last week here where apparently someone DID make time to hash through someone else's old posts. MiaSkiRacer is a new user, so all her comments are right here... bashing somebody. Makes it kinda shooting fish in a barrel.

Let's drag this through a tad of perspective:
You created an account on a conversation site to attack someone for criticizing the arbitrary accusation of people using public record data to incriminate people, by using public record data to incriminate the authors. Perhaps, I misread infoXYZ's purpose and process, but then you immediately adopt the same.

I can only assume your silly ramblings about marijuana and suspended licenses were either a search attempt to smear Patterson or myself. For fun, these are your odds of finding me

This has nothing to do with your original posit (implicit though it was) that anyone not aware of or defending this terrible thing that the original author is allegedly charged with was likely complicit, inherently evil, or likely corrupt as opposed to simply uninformed. Remember? This was about some blog post bringing up the situational irony of a minor celebrity, apparently known for a catch phrase or habitual aspersion of "fraud" may actually have unwittingly slipped into a state of genuine hypocrisy.

I only entered the discussion when people whose work I appreciate and from which I find I benefit, were directly attacked for not agreeing immediately with a rather inappropriate and highly accusative criticism.

We could discuss the psychological ramifications, perhaps that guilt so haunts this celebrity as to keep the kind of transgression front of mind even decades later. We could appreciate the general comedy of youthful indiscretions and thank our stars we haven't been "lucky" enough to gain national notoriety that might merit our own chagrin for similar, likely forgotten, missteps. We might even discuss the validity of THIS MUCH DISCUSSION over a bloody reality TV show.

But no. We'll sit and shout "poopoo-head" at each other until your keyboard wears out or your next-door neighbor changes his WAP Key.

I think Pamela from big rich texas is the biggest bitch I have ever seen in my entire life. And I have seen a lot of bitches! She is mean and she is a bully and I think she is just jealous of Leslie. I'm glad this info came out about her because she thinks she is so great and so high class and its so funny to find out that she is a felon. And she calls Leslie a fraud!!

If this is the same person, this looks like an adult conviction - not a juvenile disposition - that resulted in serving custody time. We don't use the term "conversion" in my state in terms of court dispositions? What does that mean in TX?

People certainly deserve forgiveness and the chance to move on but if this is accurate, a lot of people are going to be chuckling.

I love the show and Pamela happens to be one of my favorites however, regardless of when she committed the so called crime is irrelevant .....what I find amusing is that to me, she comes across as someone who is always calling people out and seems to think her poop don't stink. She obviously has not always been truthful so why does she go out of her way to call people out or make a spectacle when she thinks others are being dishonest?

Oh my word....Sadly, I am a fan of this slow-moving train-wreck TV show. Anywho, I have spent this past week confused, befuddled and curious after watching the premiere episode of Season 3 that aired last Sunday as to why (Oh why?!) it appeared to be that our Pam may no longer be a member of the current cast in this great social experiment/fantastical representation of how the "Elite" live and exist in your great city. After catching a repeat of the episode a few days later, this little observation of mine began to nag at me, then beg me, to seek out an answer (if possible) to this quandary - and should I be lucky enough to find a reason or explanation, to further explore if this was due to Ms. Pam's personal decision to quit this show on her own volition or if she was fired from the show by the producers. I do recognize that admitting my desire to partake in the mission to solve this mystery, I am also quite vested in this show and the lives of its "reality" characters. Oh the web that Style TV weaves!!!!

Since curiosity and boredom got the best of me, I went ahead and Googled the phrase "Pam from 'Big Rich Texas;", only to be rewarded with A. the answer to my quandary, and B. the unexpected treasure that I have discovered in the vast, vast "Comments" sections in nearly every link provided from my Google query.

Needless to say, I have successfully wasted my entire afternoon reading more than I've ever wanted about Ms. Pam, the Dallas/FW social scene and "Elite" (and consequent second or third tier wannabe's), her former cast-mates and this shocking and scandalous/salacious lawsuit.

Huzzah! I am very pleased to find not only the answer to the original question of mine that started me down this unintended rabbit-hole, but in searching out said answer I have discovered a goldmine that is the most passionate and fierce debate that occurs in nearly every posted article from the commentators (who appear to mostly be residents of the area, unlike myself, a mere mortal dwelling in the depraved city of Chicago). I have never laughed so hard at the passion espoused from both sides of this epic, dramatic, and outrageous scandal of which Ms. Pam opened - a Pandora's Box as it seems!! What an absolute circus!

But seriously, this little endeavor may have wasted my day, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for confirming that I'm not the only human being in this universe caught up in the real-and "reality" of these women from this silly indulgence of a show. I wish Chicagoans could muster half the passion in defending our reality TV stars as you all do! LOL

Cheers!
