Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, May 10-16
Food trucks, kite flying, and Mother's Day brunch are your best bets this week.
Well, well, well, just when it looked like summer heat had already taken hold of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, mild temperatures have made their return. Let's celebrate by once again featuring all-outdoor activities, including the day on which we honor the person who brought us into this world, dear old - or maybe not-so-old - mom.
Food truck fever has gripped the area for quite some time now, and Valley View Center in Dallas will host the TX Food Truck Fest on Friday and Saturday. The organizers claim that it's the largest food truck festival the state has seen, as more than 20 trucks will entice you with a wide variety of cuisines. There will also be a 5K on Saturday morning, plus all the usual festival trappings. Not to be missed for food truck lovers.
Get out your favorite kite, because the Trinity River Wind Festival will return to the Trinity River Floodways in Dallas on Saturday. A pro-environment event, you'll be able to plant wildflowers, recycle your old cell phone, or just enjoy some time outside listening to the Dallas Wind Symphony or watching show kite teams.
Finally, Sunday is Mother's Day. Whether you stay home, go out to brunch, or do something unique, make sure everything you do has your mom at the forefront. One of many options is to head out to Paws on the Plaza at One Arts Plaza in Dallas. The five restaurants in the area will have expanded patios to host those looking to enjoy an outdoor brunch with everybody in their family, including dogs. Local animal rescue group Paws in the City will also be on hand for anybody who might want to adopt a pet.
