New owners of Champ D’or plan to turn it into club
The Tabani family specializes in distressed real estate.
Alan Peppard (and I think, by now, the Dallas Business Journal) are reporting what I told you as soon as it closed April 30: Champ d’Or was purchased by the Tabani family, more specifically their privately held, family-run development company which owns and operates a ton of bread and butter shopping center properties in places like Keller, Rowlett, Friendswood, Forney, as well as Akron, Ohio; Albuquerque; Memphis; and Natchez, Miss.
Boy, Alan sure did some Googling. He says they also own Crowne Plaza hotels in Addison and Oklahoma City and many other properties. Like my sources told me, these folks specialize in distressed real estate and make no less than a million profit per transaction. Like Alan, I also called and emailed Zaffar Tabani, president and CEO of the company, but he has not yet returned my communication. Yoo hoo Zaffar, I am still waiting!
However, I have more news for you. Word is they will not live at Champ D’Or but run it as a private club, a very exclusive private club, which is probably why the new name on the deed is the T Chateau Event Center, LLC. (I always said Champ would make a great plastic surgery center or wellness/diet center a la Canyon Ranch.) Anyhew, I spoke with the designer who will be doing most of the work up at Champ and will have more details for you in the next few days. Stay tuned!
