Trader Joe's

— Trader Joe's now has a second location slated for Dallas: at the northwest corner of US 75 and Walnut Hill.

According to the DMN, a 14,000-square-foot store will open there next year.

The store will go into a new retail and residential development called Preston Hollow Village, to be built by Provident Realty Advisors of Dallas and Kroenke Holdings of Missouri.

This confirms a story first reported by Pegasus News in August 2011 that Trader Joe's would go into that space.

The first Trader Joe's announced for Dallas is on Lower Greenville, where the Arcadia Theater was. Locations have also been confirmed for Plano and Fort Worth; the Fort Worth branch will open on June 15.

Must be late next year, they haven't started anything at that site yet - seems like it would take longer to get that built.

Which makes me think of the "Lake Highlands Town Center" - if you can call it that. They built roads around a would-be shopping center and nothing's been built for a couple of years. I wonder why shopping areas like this Preston Hollow are getting funded, and that one is apparently languishing?

Well, the Plano one looks like it's coming along swimmingly....

You're always welcome up here if the dragons don't scare ya ;o)

Lake Highlands Town Center is a GREAT place to teach a kid how to drive. Lots of empty streets, stop signs, a cul-de-sac, etc.

Jason Rice, verified:

ok... Egorsti needs an award....Beyond awesome

Teresa Gubbins, staff:

Egorsti, that's funny

James Scott, that corner of Walnut Hill & 75 was razed years ago for a development and then sat there vacant. it has way more going for it than LH: it's in a prime position right off 75 and, while i think they stretch the truth quite a bit to call it Preston Hollow anything, it IS located next to some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Dallas

Lake Highlands always seems very confident about itself but for anyone who doesn't live there, driving there to go to a store would be a pain in the ass. and the community doesn't seem to ably support the limping businesses that do open there. present company excluded, of course

Sarah Blaskovich, staff:

That will make for two high-profile stops at Walnut Hill & 75 on my way home from work: First Spec's, then Trader Joe's.

What more could a person need for nourishment?

James Scott, verified:

Ah, but Teresa, you could take the train to get to LH Town Center, no driving necessary!

I personally prefer to huge empty (former) Sam's parking lot for driver's-ed. I wonder when that will be razed?

John Turner-McClelland, verified:

I'm still waiting on Trader Joes Frisco but I guess I will settle for a trip to Plano once they open just to see what all the fuss is about.
