UPDATED: Man and woman identified in murder-suicide

Nelson Rodriguez-Doran shot Christina Allen, then shot himself.

— Christina Allen has been identified as the 27-year-old woman shot by Nelson Rodriguez-Doran in an apparent murder-suicide Monday in Providence Village, an incorporated community near Little Elm. Rodriguez-Doran, 29, died at 2:15 p.m. from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.

“The main thing I want to get out there is there’s not a gunman on the loose or anything of that nature,” said Larry Kish, Denton County Sheriff's investigator at the scene Monday night. “It does appear to be a murder-suicide situation.”

The bodies were found in a house in the 10200 block of Lakeview Drive in Providence during a welfare check prompted when Allen did not show up for a scheduled meeting Monday morning. The caller who alerted police of her absence told them they had helped Allen move out of a domestic disturbance situation and that while her car was in the driveway, no one answered the door. The caller also said a neighbor heard "thumps" and a door slamming between 4 and 6 a.m. that morning.

Allen had a young son who is staying with family members.

Providence resident Phil Johnson said he heard what sounded like gunshots around dawn the morning of the shooting coming from the direction of the home: “I heard two shots, then a pause and then a third shot. Then nothing after that.”

Sheriff's deputies entered the home and found the bodies of Rodriguez-Doran and Allen in a bedroom with wounds from a semi-automatic pistol. The bodies were later transported to the medical examiner’s office for identification and further investigation.

The sheriff's department had responded to a domestic disturbance call from Allen on Saturday at 11:40 a.m. She told police she was trying to move out of the house but Rodriguez-Doran, her boyfriend, was preventing her from entering the house they shared to retrieve her belongings. The responding officers reported that no assault had occurred and that both parties had separated to stay with friends until a later date, a release from the sheriff’s office stated.
