Why is Selena Gomez one of Glamour’s Women of the Year?
We want to hate you, Selena Gomez, but we can't.

When the December issue of Glamour hits the stands, it will feature Selena Gomez as part of their list of Glamour’s Women of the Year.
The question that begs to be asked is: Why would they choose Selena Gomez, 20, for their list?
According to bestie Taylor Swift, Gomez is a woman of the year because “She’s giving back to people who need help, because of her own life experience …. She’s the exception to so many rules.”
What? She’s the exception to so many rules tells me little to nothing about Selena Gomez. Which rules are we talking about here? Do these rules have anything to do with breaking up with boyfriends and writing about them? I want to know, Taylor. We all want to know. And … scene.
So, I decided to make a quick list of what I think were the reasons why she was chosen. Bear with me for a second while I try to bring together all my Selena Gomez memories from yesteryear.
Selena Gomez is … Justin Bieber’s girlfriend. She’s famous. He is super-dee-duper famous. Even with rumors about a break-up, the association will always be there. #Jelena4Ever
Selena Gomez is … hot. As simple as that. She’s young, beautiful and seems to have a good sense of style.
Selena Gomez is … a singer of catchy songs. Have you ever heard "Love You Like a Love Song?" If you haven’t, chances are that once you do you will hear it at least 32 times during the following week. Catchy stuff.
Selena Gomez is … a child actor that still hasn’t gone completely insane. She was in Barney and Friends, Wizards of Waverly Place, and even in a few Hannah Montana episodes.
Selena Gomez is … from the Dallas area. She was born in Grand Prairie.
Selena Gomez is … UNICEF’s youngest ambassador. She received the title in August of 2009 and has continued her work with the organization until today.

Apart from being Unicef's youngest ambassador starting when she was 16, a spokesperson (donor, advocate) for animal rights in Mexico city currently working for island dog, she was one of the main young leaders behind the Sahel Now movement and she preaches self esteem to young girls with her catchy age appropriate songs.
So while she is most known in the 'pop culture' world for the things listed above, she is definitely worth the title. No doubt about it. It is a shame she has had to play second fiddle to an average karaoke singer because he is the current fad. She's won two emmys in her field and somewhere down the line, I see her winning more and maybe even golden globes etc.
I think many people who don't know about this stuff because unlike many people in her business (cough cough Bieber and his overexposed self) she doesn't broadcast her accomplishments looking for praise. She never asks her fans to vote for her when she is up for awards but somehow manages to win all those kids/teen choice awards. i think she hasn't reached the adult sphere yet, but she will. And it will be great!

Oh and she was the first spokesperson for the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. which is a foundation aimed at helping kids who are fighting cancer and deadly illnesses get the most out of their lives and be happy. Glamour Woman of the year. I think so...
