Weird retail products: Bling your toilet

Better than fluffy lid covers.

Yes, dolphins.

Are you a fan of German Shepherds, or trout fishing? Well, why not express that in the most personal way: via your toilet.

I got a press release from a website called Toilet Tattos (tagline: “The best way to crown your home”), and it was too amusing not to share. They are, according to the FAQ, “a hygienic, reusable, removable, decorative appliqué for the toilet lid.” And good news! You can buy them at Walmart.

I have to admit: It’s not the worst idea in the world. Tacky? Absolutely. But it’s a darn sight better than those mind-boggling fluffy lid covers, or the decorative seat-lid combos. I mean, if you want to festoon your toilet with dolphins for some reason, then it’s far better to do it in a way that you can peel off later when you realize it’s awful.

Some of the ones for kids’ bathrooms are actually pretty cute. (Gentle Jungle, anyone?) But I still can’t help laughing at some of these things. I want to see the bathrooms in which the decor would really come together with Skull Grunge or Crowning Glory? Then I see this one, and I think, “That might look cool in our bathroom …”

Uh-oh.
