Market Street finalizes plans for fall 2013 opening in Flower Mound

The new location will be noticeably different from its sister stores.

FLOWER MOUND — Market Street announced Monday it has finalized plans for the construction of its new Flower Mound grocery store at the northeast corner of FM 1171 and FM 2499.

“We anticipate site work and construction will begin before the end of the year, with hopes of a fall 2013 opening,” said Tony Crumpton, executive vice president of United Supermarkets, Market Street’s parent company.

The new location will be noticeably different – both inside and out – from its sister stores in the DFW area.

“We believe this store will serve as a new prototype for us, both in terms of size and décor,” Crumpton said. “It should provide an exciting shopping environment for our guests."

At 55,000 square-feet, the store will be slightly smaller than other Market Street locations, in addition to sporting a completely new look inside.

“We are taking the best of our 70,000-square-foot stores and bringing into a smaller footprint – merchandising from a guest perspective,” said Wes Jackson, chief merchandising officer of United Supermarkets, LLC.

“Although we might not have as wide a selection in terms of size and flavors, we think we will still have a very good variety for meeting our guests’ everyday needs.”

Jackson added that the store’s offering of organic, natural, specialty, body care, and supplements “will be an entirely new presentation that will offer the widest variety of any of our stores.”

In addition to the store’s size, guests also will notice a separate entrance and exit. Other Market Street locations have two entrances. “We think this will greatly improve the traffic flow and shopping experience for guests, not only as they shop but especially after checkout,” Crumpton said.

Two other significant changes will be apparent once guests enter: the “fresh from the farm” produce department at the front of the store, and a large casual dining area, complete with indoor-outdoor seating.

“We are also excited to be offering beer and wine by the glass in the casual dining area, which will be a first for our company,” Jackson said.

Plans also call for a neighborhood park behind the store and a food court with an outdoor component that will tie into the shops planned next door to the grocery.

Three separate retail/restaurant buildings of 14,000, 11,000 and 10,000 square feet will join Market Street in The River Walk at Central Park development. One building will sit next to the grocery store and the other two will be located southeast of the store, fronting FM 1171.
