Dallas’ own upscale, boutique bowling alley opens November 28

Because that's how University Park rolls.

Upscale bowling?! As Big Ern would say, "You're on a gravy train with biscuit wheels."

Upscale bowling?! As Big Ern would say, "You're on a gravy train with biscuit wheels."

— Upscale bowling? You heard it correctly. Dallas is getting its own “boutique bowling, beer hall, and American tavern” complex on November 28 when Bowl & Barrel opens at The Shops at Park Lane.

Geared toward families, young professionals, and anyone looking for a luxurious bowling experience – and, who isn't? – Bowl & Barrel is the newest brainchild of Freerange Concepts, a Dallas-based development firm headed by SMU grads Kyle Noonan and Josh Sepkowitz that believes entertainment ought to be all-encompassing. Why hop from restaurant to bar to a boring old movie when you can burn off a few brew calories in an "elegant atmosphere?"

The 15,000 square feet boasts state-of-the-art technology and an upscale design, with 15 lanes adjoined to an American tavern with a menu designed by Chef Sharon Hage, formerly of the sorely missed York Street.

Bowl & Barrel features 15 lanes, replete with QuibcaAMF bowling equipment and technology.

Hage will consult twice per year, adding seasonal and local surprises, and the eclectic mix will feature suped-up bowling alley favorites like baked pretzels, artisan hot dogs, and artisanal bologna from Rudolph’s Market in Deep Ellum, in addition to higher-brow fare like fresh oysters with malt vinegar mignonette, fresh salads, and artisan cheese and ham boards.

The full menu – including craft cocktails and beer – will be available both in the restaurant and at the lanes, and night owls will appreciate the late-hours: Bowl & Barrel will stay open until midnight on Sunday through Thursday and, if you happen to be the type to “roll on Shabbos,” until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

"boutique bowling"? Translation: like regular bowling except more expensive.

Well at least it's closer than going to Addison or Richardson. Hey, whatever happened to Blowlounge that was supposed to open up in the Design District?

What do you think?
