The X List: The 11 greatest moments in Sesame Street‘s history
Add to the list this one: In 2006, the Yip Yips come out in favor of raising the capital gains tax on all Americans making more than $250,000 a year.
Lost in all the hullabaloo about Mitt Romney wanting to cut funding for PBS is the simple fact that the children's programming on PBS, especially Sesame Street, has long been a bastion of left-wing propaganda. Here are 11 of the most memorable moments in the show's long, influential history.
1979: Big Bird looked straight into the camera and challenged the Iranian religious insurgents, claiming that they were "huge vaginas" that were "too feminine" to overthrow the Shah and take the American embassy.
1983: Mr. Hooper poured a vat of pig's blood on Nancy Reagan in her one and only guest appearance.
1999: Oscar the Grouch hands out AK-47s to the homeless with orders to "shoot the white devils that did this to you."
2007: Abby Cadabby openly denies the divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
1971: Snuffleupagus dies onscreen after he forgot that show's safety word ("Mao!") during a particularly rough hardcore pornographic segment. Millions of kids watched, leading to the overnight creation of the "snuff film" industry.
2012: Captain Breakfast threatens to "move to Canada" if "that bacon-f**king sunuvabish Romney" is elected president.
1969: This year was the introduction of Cookie Monster, an unhinged Vietnam vet with a single-minded devotion to burning American flags in protest of bloodthirsty neo-conservative geopolitik, which would later be changed to a single-minded devotion to cookies.
1992: Count von Count lists off all the war atrocities committed by U.S. Marines in Latin America over the last century while Rammstein's "Bück Dich" plays in the background.
1998: Elmo's famous "War on Christmas" episode, where he shows a shaky hand-made student film titled KARL MARX IS SANTA//SANTA IS KARL MARX.
2002: Super Grover hacks in to the State of Hawaii mainframe and secretly adds a poorly-forged birth certificate in the name of one "Barack Hussein Obama" to the database.
1994: Guy Smiley takes a s**t on a Bible.
