Chihuly exhibit at Dallas Arboretum extended through end of the year
It's good news for those who haven't seen the special exhibition yet.
DALLAS Call it a "holiday gift to the city," said Brian Shivers, chairman of the board for the Dallas Arboretum.
Standing in front of one of Dale Chihuly's iconic red and yellow glass sculptures, Shivers announced Wednesday morning that the Chihuly exhibit in the gardens will be extended through December 31, 2012. It was originally slated to end November 5, 2012.
The exhibition features whimsical, colored glass sculptures made by Washington artist Dale Chihuly. The sculptures have lived outside in the Arboretum gardens since May -- some weathering a hail storm that caused a small amount of damage.
The exhibition has been open in the daytime and in the evening, providing two diverse experiences: In daylight, the glass bulbs take on an Alice in Wonderland feel, making the lush gardens feel like a children's playplace. After dark, many of the sculptures light up from the inside out, turning the space into a romantic, quiet date spot.
Since last week, Chihuly Nights has been sold out. With the announcement of the extension, the ticket booth is back open. The Chihuly exhibit will be open every day through December 31, 2012, and three nights a week -- Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays until the end of the year.
Between December 26 and 30, the exhibition will be open every night for a special end-of-the-year rush before the sculptures are moved for good.

UPDATE: The Arboretum will offer Chihuly Nights on Sundays in December, they just announced. All November Chihuly Nights are sold out.

The fabulous lobster roll at the new T. J.'s Seafood on Oak Lawn at Herschel is spectacular, with a full pound of fresh (not frozen like Rex's) lobster. Don't miss the jumbo crab cakes, the best in town.
