Fort Worth’s Joe Kirkland still singing on The Voice

One battle round down, one bazillion more episodes to go.

Fort Worth’s Joe Kirkland made it through his battle-round sing-off on The Voice this week.

Brian Scartocci vs. Loren Allred, Ryan Jirovec vs. Cassadee Pope, and Samuel Mouton vs. Joe Kirkland

Listen through the 1:00 mark to hear Joe Kirkland. Posted by NBCTheVoice ob YouTube.

Kirkland, lead singer for local power-pop band Artist vs Poet, went up against floppy-haired reggae singer Samuel Mouton on the New Radicals’ hit “You Get What You Give.”

Unfortunately for Kirkland’s fans, we didn’t get to see much of his battle. The episode was shorter than usual because of the presidential debates. You can see the short clip in the video below, plus — God bless YouTube — his solo version of the song.

We’ll be watching to see what Kirkland does as the competition goes on.

Sidebar: I don’t watch a lot of reality music competition shows, so I have to ask — is it always like this? We are 15 episodes in, and we’re still in the battle rounds. Argh.
