Review: ZenZero’s Gooey Butter Cake is dessert nirvana
Order more than one.
COPPELL ZenZero Bakery is a cute little spot in a small strip center in Coppell where you can sample any number of delicious pastries daily, glorious espresso beverages from one of the famed La Marzocco espresso machines and even a cup of soup or salad for a light lunch.
Savory items aside, we all know you come to me because of your sweet tooth and nothing more. You let me do the leg work and I don’t mind.
On the day I went in, the pastry case was particularly empty looking -- I did arrive right after lunch -- I was still able to sample what I came in for: their famous gooey butter cake.
I can spare you the ingredient list of what is in this devilish treat. I have given you guys a recipe rundown in earlier butter cake reviews. However, I adore the added touch of powdered sugar added to the top. The top of the cake has that wonderful top layer that breaks when you bite into it like a crème brulee, right before you dig in to that gooey, butter nirvana.
So, generally speaking, I eat a very healthy diet except for my cheat days. No simple carbs or refined sugar six days a week. Therefore, when I do indulge, I want to taste every bit of butter, sugar, and love that went into that dessert. Queue the Gooey Butter Cake from ZenZero Bakery. This small square of love -- and I do mean small; order more than one -- is practically oozing with what will sure to be cellulite on my thighs.
Up until now, the butter cake from The Porch was my favorite. However, the crown now belongs to ZenZero. Next time I stop in, I plan to get there early. If the delicious butter cake is any indication of how delicious their other pastries are, I am surely in for a treat.
