On Monday, former J.J. Pearce High School student and pop singer Jessica Simpson sat down with Katie Couric on the first day of her new talk show Katie to discuss weight loss, a topic that's gotten Simpson on the pages of plenty of tabloids after she struggled to lose post-pregnancy pounds.

Simpson's daughter Maxwell Drew was born in early May, and Simpson told the talk show host she's down about 40 pounds since then. She said she's 10 pounds away from where she wants to be when she shoots the new season of Fashion Star.

Simpson reportedly signed a several million dollar deal to be Weight Watchers' celebrity spokesperson. "There is a lot of pressure to lose weight," she said in a new Weight Watchers ad. "But I'm not a supermodel. I'm just Jessica, trying to eat real food in the real world."

She said she's proud of herself every week, striving to be a "better version of myself."
