Here's an idea: Leave it at home and use it as a remote for your Apple TV.

Now that the iPhone 5 is almost official, it's time to find out what to do with your previous iPhone. Here are options to get some cash before you get your new iPhone:

Sell it

Gazelle – On Gazelle’s site, you enter your iPhone’s specifications and they give you a quote. If you decide to sell them your phone, they send you a box by mail for you to ship your phone. Once they have verified that the information you provided matches your phone, they mail you a check. Easy as pie! gazelle.com

eBay – Every year, thousands of people rush to eBay to sell their iPhones before the new one arrives. I personally know several people that have had good luck on the site. ebay.com

CraigsList – Many people still rely on CraigsList to sell their iPhones. If you decide to sell it through CraigsList, make sure that you are not being scammed. Be extra careful if someone tries to buy it from you saying that they are overseas, or buying it for a third person and want you to do some shady procedure like mailing it before having the money in your account. craigslist.org

Trade it in

RadioShack – With RadioShack’s Trade & Save Program, you can trade in your iPhone (or other gadgets) for RadioShack credit in form of a gift card which you can then use to get a new iPhone when RadioShack starts carrying them. radioshack.com

Best Buy – Just like RadioShack, you can trade in your product on Best Buy for a gift card. You can do this online or at the store. On their website, you will be able to see how much they would offer for an iphone with the same specifications of yours. bestbuy.com

Use it

Why get rid of a perfectly working iPhone when you can still do great things with it?

• Leave it at home and use it as a remote for your Apple TV.
• Give it to your kid instead of buying them an iPod Touch.
• Make someone in your family happy by upgrading them to an iPhone.
