Riders left dangling, 30 stories high, on ride similar to one coming to Six Flags

Shudder.

For the second time in two weeks, the Windseeker swing ride at Knotts Berry Farm in California just up and quit, leaving riders hanging there, 300 feet in the air. The latest incident, on Wednesday, lasted for more than three hours.

Did you just get a cold chill down your spine, thinking about it? I did.

But hey, for those with stronger constitutions than mine, we’re getting our own big ol’ swing ride soon. Six Flags Over Texas announced on August 30 that it would open the world’s tallest swing ride next year, the 400-foot Texas SkyScreamer. A 200-foot version of the ride debuted this year at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio.

I know, I know — most of the time, these rides function properly, and the chances are very small that you’ll be one of the unlucky few who gets stuck up in the stratosphere. But I’ll stick with the roller coasters all the same, thanks.
