Restaurant review: Sugar and Spice Bakery demands a speedy return

It behooves you to just order a dozen to avoid the cravings between visits.

— So, recently I was trolling around Plano looking for Henry’s Ice Cream and low and behold, I see a sign that says Sugar and Spice Bakery! Yes, please!

As soon as I pulled up my car and opened my door, I was greeted by the sugary sweet smell of delicious baked goods! I knew I was in for a treat. Usually, I plan ahead; but this place was a complete surprise to me, so you know I overdid it with my selections.

I picked out a slice of butterfinger cake, a royal iced sugar cookie, butter cream iced sugar cookie, red velvet cake ball, and a honey peanut butter cookie.

The honey peanut butter cookies actually haunt my dreams. Sadly, they never have them when I call. Yes, I can place an order for them. However, leaving me alone with a dozen of those beauties is sure to undo my morning at the gym because I know they will be gone in a matter of seconds.

The cake ball was good, just pretty average. It wasn’t bad; I just wouldn’t find myself going back for the cake balls alone.

The Butterfinger Cake - moist yellow sheet cake with fudgy chocolate frosting and chunks of Butterfinger - leaves a big impression.

The Butterfinger cake was a treat! Moist yellow sheet cake covered with fudgy chocolate frosting and large chunks of Butterfinger. It was something sure to please adults and kids alike. Sometimes even the simplest desserts make the biggest impressions.

You all know I love a frosted cookie! I opted to try the royal iced and the butter cream iced. Well, I was pretty sure that the buttercream would be my favorite. Look at the frosting to cookie ratio? I mean, even as cute as it is, the cookie is merely a vessel to shove said frosting into your mouth. An edible spoon if you will!

The royal iced cookie was delicious as well! It was very buttery with a thin layer of glaze! However, my heart belongs to the buttercream frosted.

Sugar and Spice Bakery has an ample selection of cookies, cupcakes, cake balls, sheet cake that vary immensely from one day to the next. Word of advice: if you find something you love as much as I love the honey peanut butter cookies, it would behoove you to order yourself a dozen and save yourself the sleepless nights and lash outs at co-workers. Not that I have done this or anything…

Hopefully there's not hair in all the food like there is at Henry's. (I've been offered Henry's ice cream at various functions and three out of four times, there was hair in it. Their old location was a pig sty...dunno about the current one.)
