FBI releases sketch of suspected bank robber dubbed Mesh Mask Bandit
The FBI says the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
In February, the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force said it believed a man known only as the Mesh Mask Bandit was responsible for nine bank robberies in and near Northwest Dallas since New Year’s Eve. Today, the FBI says that number is up to 14, with his most recent hold-up having occured just yesterday at the Citibank at 1401 N. Collins Street in Arlington. According to the FBI this morning, “The suspect entered the bank with a weapon drawn, verbally demanded cash and ran away from the bank after receiving an undisclosed amount of money.”
A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest and/or conviction.
The FBI has also released a composite sketch of the suspect, its first peek under the mesh mask. Says the FBI, the drawing was based upon a witness description of the suspect “before he pulled on the full coverage mask that gave him the moniker the ‘Mesh Mask Bandit.’”
According to the FBI, “The robber is described as a Hispanic male with a dark complexion, 37 to 43 years old, 5’7” to 6’2” tall, with a medium to large build; he has dark hair and dark eyes and may wear a mustache and goatee. His clothing or skin may have been temporarily dyed red during the robbery that occurred on January 31, 2013 in Dallas.”
That was when he robbed the Capital One Bank at 2903 Forest Lane in Northwest Dallas.
According to the FBI, in recent weeks he’s hit the Grand Bank of Texas in Grand Prairie, a Capital One Bank on Old Denton Road in Carrollton, the Chase Bank branch at 6300 Harry Hines Blvd. in Dallas, a BBVA Compass on East FM 3040 in Lewisville, and the Citibank in Arlington.
The FBI says the suspect is to be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call the Dallas office of the FBI at 972-559-5000 or the North Texas Crime Stoppers tipline at 1-877-373-TIPS (8477).
