Jennifer Hudson will perform at MegaFest in Dallas August 31
Steve Harvey will host the event.
DALLAS Jennifer Hudson will perform at T.D. Jakes’ Women of Purpose concert August 31 as part of the MegaFest family festival.
Earlier in the day, Hudson also will answer questions after a screening of her Jakes-presented biopic, Winnie Mandela, at MegaFest’s International Faith and Family Film Festival.
The Oscar-winning actress and singer will perform at the concert alongside Toni Braxton, Holly Robinson Peete, Babyface, Brandy, Mary Mary, Kim Burrell, and Joe. Steve Harvey will host the event.
Hudson, a former American Idol contestant and actress, starred in NBC’s Broadway-set drama Smash. She won an Academy Award and was nominated for a cast Grammy for her role in the 2006 film Dreamgirls. Hudson is also highly visible as a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers.
Winnie Mandela, scheduled for wide release in September, traces the life of South African President Nelson Mandela’s wife through her childhood, early marriage, and long years as an anti-apartheid activist.
The film will be shown with Let the Church Say Amen, Grace Unplugged, Playin’ for Love, Child 31, and The Other Son at the film festival at the Omni Dallas Hotel. The festival will also feature three keynote addresses, including one from CNN’s Soledad O’Brien, and panelists who will speak on topics such as the future of faith-based film and television, and launching a film project.
The festival is part of the larger MegaFest, a weekend of concerts, workshops, comedy shows, and events organized by Potter’s House pastor Jakes. It’s expected to draw around 50,000 people to Dallas. The festival will spread from American Airlines Center to the Omni Dallas Hotel and the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
Other celebrities have previously been announced for MegaFest’s lineup. Oprah Winfrey will tape an episode of Oprah’s Lifeclass with Jakes at American Airlines Center on August 29. Pastors Joel and Victoria Osteen will speak at the conference, and Cedric the Entertainer will be featured in the “Just Churchin’ Comedy Show,” a ticketed event on August 30.
Plan your life: MegaFest takes place August 29-31 at American Airlines Center, Omni Dallas Hotel, and the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. Tickets for the three-day men’s and women’s conferences are $60 per person, while youth and children’s conference tickets are $20 per person. More details at mega-fest.com.
