Photos: Ice skating rink at Klyde Warren Park now open
The rink will be open to the public through January 31.
Per the heads-up from the park that just went out, former Dallas Stars owner Norm Green and his wife Kelly are sponsoring the 32-by-100-foot rink, which will be open though the end of January on the Ginsburg Family Great Lawn, next to the children’s part of the park. According to the release, skate rentals will be free Friday — when there’s a chance of rain, natch — and complimentary skate lessons will be offered on Saturday and Sunday. Sign up for those on the park’s website.
“We are so thrilled to open our skating rink, after working on this plan over the last few months,” said Tara Green, president of Klyde Warren Park, in a prepared statement. “The skating rink will add to the holiday spirit and bring people out to enjoy the park during the winter. We encourage everyone to come out to enjoy our new skating rink this weekend.”
To which Norm Green adds that he and his wife just “wanted to bring something new to the city for everyone to enjoy, and a skating rink in Klyde Warren Park just seemed perfect given my passion for hockey and the community.”
Says the release, visitors will have a chance to skate for free every Tuesday. El Centro is sponsoring “weekly community skate day,” and CBS Radio will pipe in the tunes.
Keep in mind following this Icepocalyptic weekend that it’s not The Real Thing: The skating surface is known as Super-Glide, which is “eco-friendly and made with a scientifically engineered molecular structure that lets skaters glide just as smoothly as on real ice,” says the release.
Hours of operations are Monday–Thursday from 11 a.m.–8 p.m.; Friday–Saturday from 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; and Sunday, 12 p.m.–6 p.m.
