Walker, Texas Ranger is our state’s most popular show? Hardly
How about Dallas, Friday Night Lights or King of the Hill?
Business Insider tackled an admirable task this week: determining the most popular TV show set in each state. It’s a pretty cool graphic, as you can see on the right. (Click it to enlarge.) Too bad they totally screwed up Texas.
As you can see, they declared Walker, Texas Ranger to be our most popular show ever. To which I say, really? (Please don’t kill me in my sleep, Chuck Norris.) Come on. When the “Who Done It” episode of Dallas aired in 1980, it was the highest-rated television episode ever at the time. I think you could argue that no television show has ignited a cultural obsession with the state it’s set in quite like Dallas did in its heyday.
And anyway, Business Insider says it took critical acclaim into account in determining the “most popular.” If that’s really the case, then Friday Night Lights or King of the Hill both could make claims for the No. 1 spot. In any case, we can all agree it’s not Walker, Texas Ranger, right? It’s not a bad show, but it ain’t Dallas.
What should Texas’ No. 1 show be? Feel free to disagree with me — or Business Insider — in the comments.
