Oldest U.S. Congressman, Rockwall’s Ralph Hall, now on Twitter
First a fiscal conservative, now a linguistic one.
Rep. Hall, the oldest member of the U.S. House of Representatives, said in a news release that he signed up so his constituents can “follow important votes and daily activity on Capitol Hill, as well as important issues facing our Nation.”
“Twitter is also an economically responsible form of communication – no taxpayer dollars were spent to open my account, and constituents can read and join Twitter for free,” he said. “Constituents who are unregistered users of Twitter will be able to read tweets, while registered Twitter users can interact with the site.”
“It is my priority to listen to the voices of my constituents and focus my efforts on their behalf, and Twitter will enhance my ability to do so.”
As of February 8, 84 people have signed up to follow Rep. Hall, including Politico tech reporter Alex Byers, The Houston Chronicle, KXII-TV News12 Texoma TX, Michigan Congressman Fred Upton, several Congressional staffers, several Texas college students, and now The Rockwall News and Publisher J.J. Smith.
He has tweeted four “tweets” (messages): wishing Pres. Reagan a happy 102 birthday, his support for Require a PLAN Act, celebrating passage of N. TXZebra Mussel Barrier Act, and that it’s been 1,600 days since Keystone XL Pipeline app was filed.
Rep. Hall has started following 10 people, including U.S. House Speaker John Boehner; Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor; Texas Congressmen Sam Johnson, Joe Barton, and Lamar Smith; and U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison from Texas.
Rep. Hall also has a Facebook account at Ralph Hall, Government Official, which he joined December 13, 2007. His first post was not until June 22, 2009, when he invited users to sign up for his newsletter.
